Welcome to the Aethermancer Contest, hosted by Moi Rai, offbrand and therun.gg!

This is your perfect chance to get into Aethermancer -- or speedrunning! Read on, and we'll quickly explain how to get started. It's easy!

About Aethermancer

Aethermancer is a hybrid between a Roguelite and a Monster Tamer game. You can download the demo we will speedrun for free here! The demo consists of two Biomes. Each Biome contains 4 Zones. Three regular ones, and one for a Champion. To beat the game, you gather a squad of Monsters, and defeat each zone while watching your Monsters grow stronger.

The Contest

This contest will run during Steam Next Fest: from February 24th to March 2nd. Whoever has the fastest time on March 2 will win the first prize: an interactive prop statue in Forbidden Fortress! For the full ruleset, please click here!

Your goal is to beat the game as quickly as possible, while starting from a fresh save file. But it won't be that simple -- you could rush through the whole game, beat the two Champions, and be done in 15 minutes or so. No, in this contest we don't run the Any% category: we run "All Encounters".

Setup

To set up the game to be able to speedrun, you'll have to setup a few things. No worries, it's quick and we'll guide you through it!

1. First of all, make sure to join Moi Rai's Discord Server. Their speedrun channel will keep you up to date of the latest news concering the speedrun.
2. Then, obviously, download and install the game from Steam.
3. Now do the first thing a speedrunner does: Install LiveSplit. This is your timer software and lets you know what time you get. Handy!
4. Download This Splits File and open it with LiveSplit. Right click LiveSplit, click Edit Splits... and hit Activate on the Auto Splitting and Load Time Removal module. If that's not an option, make sure the Game is set to "Aethermancer" in LiveSplit.
5. While we're working in LiveSplit, right click, Edit Layout, and set up therun.gg: here's a guide: LiveSplit Therun.gg Guide. If you want, you can make more adjustments to your Layout. Make it as pretty as you want! You should always have your Splits and your Timer on screen.
6. You're all set! Start a fresh Aethermancer file, and the timer should automatically start running after the intro cutscene. It will automatically split after every zone, and finish your run after beating Star Spawn.

All Encounters

All Encounters means it's mandatory to defeat all possible encounters in the Aethermancer Demo. In total, you will need to defeat 17 encounters:

• 2 in Biome 1 - Zone 1
• 3 in Biome 1 - Zone 2
• 3 in Biome 1 - Zone 3
• The Biome 1 Champion: Warden Boss
• 2 in Biome 2 - Zone 1
• 3 in Biome 2 - Zone 2
• 2 in Biome 2 - Zone 3
• The Final Boss: Star Spawn

When Star Spawn reaches 0 HP, you have completed your speedrun.

Patch

Before the contest starts on February 24th, Moi Rai will release a patch for Aethermancer with reworks, balancing... and more. Please be aware of this while preparing for the contest!
